GOES-East infrared and Global Precipitation Measurement

Data is obtained from NOAA Satellite and Information Service in cooperation with Unidata. Precipitation data is obtained from NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) satellite. Images are updated every 30 minutes.

North Atlantic

Numerical weather models are constantly evolving overtime. They are used to help meteorologist predict weather patterns and/or events so they can issue forecast to the public. While the models are wonderful tools to use, they also contain numerical errors that will cause forecast to be rather inaccurate after a certain amount of days (usually 3 to 5 days). You will need some human interpretation of the output data. Please see disclaimer for WXbinge.

ENSO Forecast Plumes. The quantity on the ordinate is the NINO3.4 sea surface temperature anomaly index, which is an average of SST anomalies over a region in the central tropical Pacific [(5°S-5°N)(170-120°W)]. The observed value of the NINO3.4 index is displayed with a thick yellow line outlined in black.
